Dr. Samuel Dickman, medical director of Planned Parenthood Montana, has estimated the number of women who have become pregnant as a result of rape in abortion-ban states since the catastrophic 2022 Dobbs decision.

Dr. Dickman notes that he has seen patients routinely who tell him they become pregnant after a rape. His sense was that the patients who were telling him were only a fraction of the true number. “There are certainly far more survivors of rape who become pregnant as a resuult, who – for totally understandable reasons – don’t want to disclose that fact to a medical provider they just met.”
In a letter just published in JAMA Internal Medicine, Dr. Bowman cites evidence backing up his estimate of 65,000 pregnancies caused by rape in the 14 states where abortion is banned since Dobbs.
It’s a shocking fact, made even more shocking by the fact that the forced-birth crazies just don’t care. As the article notes: “Yet rape exceptions for abortion laws have fallen out of favor ammong anti-abortion rights groups, and the majority of states with abortion bans do not include such an exception.” Talk about evil …
